Redirects

Manage URL redirects for moved, renamed, or retired pages so visitors and search engines land on the correct destination.

Overview

Redirects helps you send old or incorrect URLs to the right destination. It is useful when you change permalinks, merge content, retire campaigns, or clean up URLs after a migration.

Admin path: Airygen SEO -> Settings -> Redirects

The interface keeps rule creation and rule management in one place, so you can add, search, edit, and remove redirects without leaving the screen.

Settings

The screen combines rule creation and rule management in one place.

Rule editor

Click Add redirect or edit an existing rule to open the redirect form.

  • Status lets you enable or disable the rule.
  • Source path or pattern defines the incoming URL path or match pattern.
  • Target URL defines where visitors should be sent.
  • HTTP status controls the response code used by the redirect.
  • Match type supports exact, wildcard, and regex.
  • Note lets you store an internal explanation for why the rule exists.

Rule list

  • Search helps you find redirect rules by source, target, or note text.
  • The table shows Source, Target, Match type, and HTTP status.
  • Notes can be opened from the note button in the row actions.
  • Each rule can be edited or removed from the table actions.
  • The screen supports pagination when many rules exist.
  • Redirect matching priority is explained as exact -> wildcard -> regex.

How to Use

  1. Open Airygen SEO -> Settings -> Redirects.
  2. Click Add redirect.
  3. Turn the rule Status on if it should become active immediately.
  4. Enter the old path in Source path or pattern.
  5. Enter the destination in Target URL.
  6. Choose the correct HTTP status for the type of move you are making.
  7. Choose a Match type of exact, wildcard, or regex.
  8. Add a Note if you want future editors to understand why the rule exists.
  9. Save the rule and use the Search field to review or find it later.
  10. Test the old URL in a browser or redirect checker and confirm that it reaches the correct destination.

Check these items after saving:

  • The old URL resolves to the intended destination.
  • The chosen status code matches the kind of move you are making.
  • The redirect does not create a chain or loop.
  • The rule list stays understandable because notes explain why important redirects exist.

SEO Benefits

Redirects help preserve value from old URLs by guiding users and search engines to the right replacement page. They also reduce the damage caused by broken incoming links after structural changes.

User Cases

Sites changing permalink structures

Before: A site changes its URL structure, but old article links still exist in search results and backlinks.

After: Redirects sends each old path to the correct new URL, which helps visitors and crawlers reach the replacement content.

Campaign and seasonal page cleanup

Before: Short-lived landing pages expire, but old links continue receiving clicks from ads, emails, or bookmarks.

After: Redirect rules guide those visits to the best replacement page instead of leaving users on a dead URL.

FAQ

What is the difference between exact, wildcard, and regex?

Exact matches one specific path, wildcard matches broader pattern-based paths, and regex is for more advanced matching rules.

Can I turn a redirect off without deleting it?

Yes. Open the rule, change the Status, and save it again.

Are notes visible to visitors?

No. Note is for internal reference inside the redirect manager only.
